This comment from Trump has enraged the left.
President Donald Trump once again dominated headlines Monday as he defended his tough-on-crime agenda in Washington, D.C., brushing off media outrage with a fiery remark: “A lot of people are saying, ‘Maybe we like a dictator.’” Trump immediately clarified, “I’m not a dictator. I’m a man with great common sense.”
Trump Takes Bold Action on Crime and Law & Order
From the Oval Office, Trump signed a sweeping series of executive orders targeting crime and restoring law and order nationwide. His measures included:
- Ending cashless bail, which allows repeat offenders to walk free.
- Authorizing tougher action against flag-burning, a move cheered by veterans.
- Directing Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to create specialized National Guard units trained to deal with riots and public disorder.
Trump also repeated his pledge to deploy National Guard troops to violent Democrat-run cities like Chicago, saying, “People who would have been killed are now living and breathing because we are cracking down.”

Vice President JD Vance Backs Trump’s Plan
Vice President JD Vance slammed Democrat governors for resisting Trump’s efforts. “They’re angrier at President Trump for offering to help than at the criminals terrorizing their cities,” Vance said, adding that the left’s priorities have left families unsafe for decades.
Ending the Dangerous Cashless Bail System
Perhaps Trump’s biggest move was signing an order to shut down cashless bail, a system that Democrats claim is “fair,” but that has unleashed violent offenders on law-abiding citizens.
Trump’s order warns:
- Violent criminals are being released back into communities.
- Police officers are forced to repeatedly arrest the same offenders.
- Public safety and taxpayer resources are being put at risk.
The president vowed to cut federal funding from jurisdictions that keep cashless bail in place, calling out Illinois as a prime example of failed liberal policy.
Democrats Cry Foul While Crime Rises
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker accused Trump of “manufacturing a crisis,” while Chicago’s far-left Mayor Brandon Johnson claimed using the National Guard would amount to an “occupation.” Liberal lawyers even defended cashless bail, despite overwhelming evidence that it leads to repeat crimes.
Conservatives, however, praised Trump’s decisive leadership. Senator Tom Cotton called cashless bail “a disastrous, failed policy pushed by pro-criminal leftists like George Soros and Gavin Newsom.”
Trump Stays Defiant Against the Media and the Left
Despite the backlash, Trump said his policies are popular with everyday Americans who are fed up with rising crime. He compared the fight over law and order to the fight against men competing in women’s sports, saying both issues expose how far Democrats have strayed from common sense.
“The Democrats better get smart. Politically, I hope they don’t, but for the good of the country, I hope they do,” Trump declared.
