Democrats need to stop playing games with the border.
According to a spokesperson for the Republican Party, the Democrats who serve on the House Homeland Security Committee had initially planned to participate in a field hearing at the southern border scheduled for Wednesday. They had made travel arrangements and arranged for a witness to testify. However, they then decided to play games with Republicans and later withdrew from the hearing earlier this week.
It appears that whenever it comes to fixing the southern border, Democrats don’t care about anything and will sabotage any amount of effort put in to fixing the border.
According to Fox, A hearing is scheduled by the committee to be held in McAllen, Texas on Wednesday, where Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz is among the witnesses that will testify. The hearing will address the continuing crisis at the southern border.
Earlier this week, Democrats withdrew from the hearing, citing “careful consideration.” They alleged that the Republicans had intended to politicize the event from the outset, breaking from the Committee’s long-standing tradition of bipartisanship.
Democrat Bennie Thompson then attempted to justify their decision to ditch the border and attacked Republicans saying, “Instead of a fact-finding mission to develop better border security and immigration policies, Republicans are traveling to the border to attack the Administration and try to score political points with their extreme rhetoric – despite having voted against the resources border personnel need. Committee Democrats are in regular contact with Department leadership and stakeholders on the ground and will be taking substantive site visits to the border – including as soon as this week.”
A spokesperson for the Republicans fired back and explained that the argument that the Democrats did not confirm their attendance was “half-baked” and contradicted by their actions. They had arranged for a witness who was confirmed on the first panel and made travel plans. The spokesperson also accused the Democrats of playing partisan games and being the ones who were politicizing the event.
