This is very interesting.
One of the most recognizable creative minds behind The Simpsons is officially entering the political arena — and his campaign is already turning heads across America.
Dan Greaney, a longtime writer for the legendary animated series, announced he is running for president in 2028 after years of internet fascination surrounding the show’s so-called “predictions” about major world events, including the rise of Donald Trump.
Greaney became widely known for helping write the famous 2000 episode “Bart to the Future,” which featured Lisa Simpson discussing economic problems following a fictional Trump presidency years before Trump ever entered the White House.
Now, the Hollywood veteran says America needs a major political reset.
In a dramatic campaign launch video, Greaney criticized both Democrats and Republicans, accusing Washington insiders, powerful elites, and billionaire donors of losing touch with ordinary Americans.
Greaney argued in his campaign video that political leaders from both parties — including Trump, Vance, wealthy elites, and longtime establishment politicians — have lost touch with the needs of everyday Americans.
The California-based writer initially appeared dressed like a fortune teller, joking about his reputation as a “prophet” because of the show’s history of eerily accurate cultural references. Moments later, he removed the costume, appeared clean-shaven in a suit, and formally declared his candidacy for president.
Greaney then jokingly declared that if career politicians can do it, so can he, before officially announcing his presidential campaign.
Greaney says he plans to campaign as what he calls a “progressive Republican,” pointing to historic GOP leaders like Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt as inspirations for his vision of government.
However, many of his policy ideas place him far outside the modern Republican mainstream. He has voiced support for universal healthcare proposals and environmental programs tied to the Green New Deal movement.
Even so, Greaney insists his campaign is focused on uniting Americans rather than deepening political divisions.
According to a campaign statement, the writer hopes to appeal to voters frustrated with both parties and the growing sense of political exhaustion across the country.
The announcement also reignited online discussions about the long-running reputation of The Simpsons for seemingly predicting future events.
Over the years, fans have pointed to episodes that appeared to foreshadow major moments in American culture, politics, and business. Among the most discussed examples are references tied to Trump’s presidency and the eventual acquisition of 21st Century Fox by The Walt Disney Company.
Supporters of the theory argue the show has repeatedly captured cultural trends before they happened, while critics say many examples are simply coincidences amplified by social media.
Greaney himself admits that what once felt like satire now feels much more serious in today’s political climate.
His entry into the race comes unusually early in the 2028 presidential cycle, giving him an opportunity to gain national attention before larger political figures officially launch campaigns.
On the Republican side, names like JD Vance and Marco Rubio continue to generate speculation among conservative voters. Democrats, meanwhile, are still discussing possible future contenders including Kamala Harris and Gavin Newsom.
Whether Greaney becomes a serious candidate or simply an internet sensation remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: his unusual campaign launch has already captured national attention — and once again put the spotlight on the strange history of The Simpsons and its connection to American politics.
