Kamala clearly doesn’t know what she is doing.

Vice President Kamala Harris sparked a wave of criticism online after seemingly adopting a southern accent during a speech in Atlanta. Speaking to a crowd, Harris, who hails from California, declared, “You all helped us win in 2020 and we gonna do it again in 2024,” while noticeably shifting her accent.

This sudden change in speech pattern did not go unnoticed. Critics on social media quickly pounced on what they perceived as an attempt to pander to the local audience. Clay Travis, founder of OutKick, shared a clip of the moment on X, questioning the authenticity of Harris’s accent. “Kamala Harris goes to Atlanta and suddenly has a southern accent,” Travis remarked. “Why do people do this? It’s so obviously disingenuous.”

Travis continued to question why this sort of accent adaptation seems to be specific to southern regions. “Do people do this with any other regional accents?” he asked. “You don’t see anyone go to Massachusetts and start talking like a Kennedy. It’s only the South.”

Responses to Travis’s post ranged from accusations of insincerity to psychological critiques. One user described the behavior as typical of “sociopaths,” while another labeled it as “mirroring,” a sign of narcissistic tendencies.

Conservative columnist Ian Haworth also weighed in on the controversy, comparing Harris’s performance unfavorably to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s past use of a southern accent. “Kamala Harris’s fake southern accent puts Hillary Clinton to shame,” Haworth wrote, referencing the well-known criticism Clinton faced for similar behavior in her political career.

This incident comes as Harris works to solidify her position on the campaign trail. With Georgia being a pivotal swing state in the upcoming election, the scrutiny of her every move is intense. Former President Trump won Georgia by a narrow margin in 2016, but President Biden managed to flip it in 2020. As the Real Clear Politics polling average currently shows Trump holding a slight lead over Harris, the state is expected to play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the 2024 election.
