Former Vice President Kamala Harris has stepped back into the political spotlight with a surprise endorsement in one of the country’s most closely watched Senate races.
On Wednesday, Harris announced she is backing Texas state Rep. James Talarico in the race for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas). The endorsement comes after Harris’ original choice, Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett, was defeated in the Democratic primary.

Harris Throws Support Behind Talarico

Jasmine Crockett Concedes After Primary Loss
The endorsement came shortly after Jasmine Crockett, who had been widely viewed as one of the rising stars in the Democratic Party, conceded the primary race.
Crockett had strong backing from several progressive leaders and previously served as a co-chair of Harris’ 2024 presidential campaign.
Despite the defeat, Harris praised Crockett’s campaign and predicted the Texas congresswoman still has a long political future ahead.

Following her concession, Crockett urged Democrats across Texas to unite behind their new nominee as the party prepares for the general election.
Crockett said in a statement that Democrats must stay united moving forward, arguing that the stakes go far beyond any single candidate. She added that the election is about the future of Texas’ 30 million residents and what direction the country takes in the years ahead.
She also pledged to remain active in the campaign season.
