Miller took these lunatics back to school. Sheesh!
Stephen Miller delivered a powerful response to the White House press corps during a press briefing on Thursday, offering what many conservatives saw as a much-needed “civics lesson” on presidential powers.
The White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy pushed back against questions from the media that compared concerns about Elon Musk’s role as an “unelected bureaucrat” while simultaneously ignoring the clear issues surrounding President Joe Biden’s declining mental state. Miller wasted no time addressing the double standard.
He began by stating, “It is true that many in this room, over the last four years, failed to address the fact that Joe Biden has shown clear signs of mental incompetence, and for much of that time, he wasn’t really in control of running the country.” He continued, calling out the ignorance surrounding the Constitution’s structure, particularly how the government operates with elected officials.
Miller reminded the press that a president is uniquely elected by the entire nation. Unlike other government officials, such as judges and members of Congress, who are appointed or elected at a more localized level, the president’s power is derived directly from the will of the American people. He referenced Article II of the Constitution, specifically the Vesting Clause, which grants the president executive power, affirming that the “whole will of democracy” is embodied in the president, who then appoints staff to carry out the will of the people.
Miller also called attention to a serious threat to democracy that often goes unnoticed—unelected bureaucrats entrenched in the federal government. He emphasized that these lifetime-tenured civil servants, who believe they operate without accountability, are the real danger to democracy. Miller singled out agencies like the FBI, Environmental Protection Agency, and the Justice Department for refusing to implement the will of the American people, particularly when it comes to President Trump’s agenda.
Finally, Miller defended President Trump’s efforts to drain the swamp, removing these federal bureaucrats who resist following the democratic will as expressed through lawful orders from the elected president.
Conservatives on social media, including comedian Tim Young, were quick to applaud Miller’s remarks. Young praised the way Miller took on the media and educated them on the Constitution, while Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs jokingly likened Miller’s explanation to a lesson from “Schoolhouse Rock.” National Review’s Dan McLaughlin succinctly summed up the sentiment, stating, “He’s right, you know.”
In a time when the left and the media regularly undermine the authority of a duly elected president, Miller’s response was a refreshing reminder of how the Constitution actually works—and why it matters to every American voter.
