Putin thinks he’s smart but he is going to learn a hard lesson.
In a stunning display of defiance, Russian President Vladimir Putin has remained silent on President Donald Trump’s powerful 50-day ultimatum to end the war in Ukraine—or face punishing 100% tariffs from the United States.
But Moscow has finally broken its silence—and the message is one of mockery.
On Tuesday, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, now serving as Deputy Chair of Russia’s Security Council, took to social media to respond to Trump’s warning. His reaction? Dismissive.
“Trump delivered a dramatic warning to the Kremlin. The world held its breath, bracing for impact. A hopeful Europe was left let down,” Medvedev wrote on X. “Russia remained indifferent.”
The bold statement was Moscow’s first official reaction to the joint announcement by President Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. Their message to Putin was clear: bring your invasion to a halt within 50 days, or suffer the consequences of full-spectrum economic retaliation.
NATO Backs Trump, EU Hesitates
Trump’s allies praised the move. Rutte called the ultimatum “logical” and a necessary show of strength. For many Americans—especially those tired of endless wars and weak diplomacy—Trump’s stance represents a return to decisive, America-first leadership.
But in Europe, some leaders appeared less enthusiastic.
EU foreign affairs chief Kaja Kallas warned the deadline might come at too high a cost.
“On one hand, it’s positive that President Trump is standing up to Russia,” Kallas said from Brussels.
“But 50 days is a very long time when innocent civilians are being killed daily.”
Ukraine: Support Welcome, But Delay Questioned
In Ukraine, where the human toll of war is a daily reality, some officials questioned why the Kremlin was given such a generous window.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, speaking to German news outlet ARD, said he appreciated the U.S. support but added:
“Why give Putin 50 days? That’s 50 more days of death, 50 more days of destruction across Ukraine.”
His comments reflect growing concern that any delay in action may embolden Putin and prolong the war even further.
Trump: “The Talk Doesn’t Mean Anything”
President Trump, visibly frustrated, addressed reporters Monday and revealed how many times he’s personally tried to reach a peaceful resolution with the Russian leader.
“I’ve had several conversations with Putin. Each time, I thought we had reached an agreement,” Trump explained. “But then, almost immediately, missiles would strike Kyiv. After seeing that pattern three or four times, you start to understand—the words are meaningless.”
Trump’s approach is a stark departure from the empty diplomacy seen under the Biden administration, where vague statements replaced action, and weakness invited aggression.
America First, Strength Always
President Trump’s ultimatum is more than symbolic. It represents a return to bold foreign policy—one where enemies fear American strength, and allies know they can count on decisive leadership.
As the 50-day clock ticks, one thing is certain: Trump is once again putting America first, while reminding the world that peace is only possible through strength—not appeasement.
