This was a huge statement.
U.S. Citizen Children Don’t Shield Parents from Deportation, Says Former ICE Chief
Former Acting ICE Director Tom Homan delivered a strong message on CBS News’s Face the Nation:
Being a parent of a U.S. citizen does not excuse breaking America’s immigration laws.
“Having a U.S. citizen child doesn’t make you immune from the law,” Homan stated.
“Every day, American families are separated by law enforcement — illegal immigrants are no different.”
Deportation Controversy: What Happened?
The discussion follows reports of a two-year-old U.S. citizen who was deported alongside her mother and sister.
The mother was living in the United States illegally.
A federal judge in Louisiana has scheduled a hearing for May 16 after the child’s father filed a petition for her return.
Homan: Responsibility Lies with Parents, Not the Government
Homan made it clear: Parents who break the law put their children in jeopardy — not law enforcement.
“Having a baby here isn’t a ‘get out of jail free card,’” Homan explained.
“When a parent is deported, it’s their decision whether to take the child or leave them with family.”
He called it “parenting 101” — and firmly rejected claims that the government was to blame.
“It’s a parent’s decision. It’s not the government’s fault,” he emphasized.
Trump-Era Policies: Protecting American Families and Securing the Border
Under President Donald Trump, immigration enforcement prioritized the safety of American families, border security, and respect for the rule of law.
Tom Homan’s defense of strict immigration laws reflects what millions of Americans already know: A nation without borders is a nation at risk.
As the crisis at the border continues, strong leadership and common-sense enforcement are more important than ever to protect our communities, our families, and our future.
