While it is a wonderful message, some Americans are scratching their heads about why Trump used an old photo.
This Christmas, President-elect Donald Trump struck a notably serene tone, wishing the American people a peaceful and traditional holiday greeting. On Truth Social, Trump shared a heartfelt message: “MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!” alongside a familiar, festive photo of him and Melania from their 2018 Christmas portrait. The simple yet powerful message stands in contrast to the usual political battles Trump is known for, reflecting a moment of calm and goodwill.

Trump’s message came at a time when his transition to the White House was in full swing, and he’s likely spending the holiday at Mar-a-Lago, his private estate in Palm Beach, Florida. While Trump’s Christmas post was light on politics, his family’s business was very much in the holiday spirit, offering an array of MAGA-themed merchandise. The Trump Store has been promoting items like MAGA hat ornaments, Trump-branded teddy bears, and even gold wrapping paper—perfect for supporters looking to add a personal touch to their Christmas celebrations.
Meanwhile, President Biden’s holiday message was somewhat more political, as he reflected on his time in office and offered a vision for the future. In his Christmas message, Biden wished for “dignity and decency” to prevail in America. He also noted this would be his final Christmas as president, hinting at the end of his administration. His message, though hopeful in tone, seemed more about the values of his leadership than about a unifying call to the nation.
In 2023, Trump’s holiday message was much more aggressive, railing against what he saw as the threats facing America—from high taxes and rising inflation to the open border policies and the state of the military. Last year, he famously wrote about “thugs” within the U.S. government and their detrimental impact on the country, calling for their “rot in hell.”
This year’s more restrained message, however, reflects a shift as Trump sets the stage for his return to the White House, focusing on unity and tradition during a time of deep national division. For many of his supporters, this message of Merry Christmas is a reminder of the values they hold dear: faith, family, and the promise of a stronger, more prosperous America.
