Maryland Governor tries to frame Trump
Democrats are crying foul after President Trump’s administration rejected a federal disaster aid request from the state of Maryland—sparking a fresh round of finger-pointing from liberal leaders.
Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) lashed out at the Trump administration this week, claiming the state was unfairly denied federal assistance after devastating floods swept through Western Maryland in May. Moore’s office insisted the damages exceeded the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) threshold for aid.
“The floods in May clearly met FEMA’s criteria,” Moore said. “We’ll appeal this decision and pursue every possible federal resource.”
According to the state, heavy rainfall caused Georges Creek to overflow, flooding towns across the region. But the administration stood its ground, emphasizing a hard pivot away from the old model of unlimited bailouts for blue states.
Trump’s Bold FEMA Overhaul: ‘We’re Giving Out Less Money’
President Trump has made no secret of his plans to reform FEMA and cut down on unchecked government spending.
“We’re going to give out less money,” Trump said in June, explaining his strategy to reduce waste and ensure states take greater responsibility for disaster preparedness and recovery.
The administration’s position is simple: taxpayer money should be used carefully, and not as a crutch for mismanaged state governments.
White House Responds: ‘States Must Prepare, Not Depend’
Asked why Maryland’s request was denied, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson reinforced Trump’s policy shift.
“The President reviews every aid request with care and makes decisions based on what’s best for American taxpayers,” Jackson said Friday. “Federal assistance should support—not replace—state responsibility.”
Jackson added that the Trump administration is focused on helping local governments build resilience before disaster strikes, to avoid constant federal bailouts and endless emergency funding.
Bottom Line: Accountability vs. Entitlement
While Democrats scream foul, Trump supporters say it’s time someone held the line. No more blank checks. No more free rides for liberal strongholds. Americans deserve leadership that protects their tax dollars and demands accountability from every level of government.
