Biden won’t like this.
President Trump Fires Biden-Appointed Jobs Chief After Disastrous Report
In a bold shake-up that’s turning heads in Washington, President Donald J. Trump dismissed the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) on Friday—just hours after the agency published a report revealing an uptick in unemployment and significant downward revisions to earlier job data.
Biden-Appointed Economist Out After Job Numbers Collapse
Erika McEntarfer, who was appointed by Joe Biden, had been overseeing the nation’s labor statistics since January 2024. But after releasing shocking July job numbers—with only 73,000 jobs added and a downward revision of 258,000 jobs from May and June—President Trump said enough was enough.
“The numbers were phony—just like they were before the election,” Trump said. “So I fired her.”
The White House confirmed that McEntarfer was terminated Friday and replaced on an acting basis by Deputy Commissioner William Wiatrowski.
Trump Blasts Phony Jobs Data, Demands Accountability
In a fiery Truth Social post, Trump said he was “just informed” that Biden’s own economic loyalist was still behind the BLS reports. He accused McEntarfer of deliberately faking jobs numbers in the lead-up to the 2024 election to boost Kamala Harris’s chances.
“This is the same Bureau of Labor Statistics that overstated job growth in March 2024 by 818,000 jobs, and again right before the election by another 112,000,” Trump wrote. “These were record-level misstatements. No one gets it that wrong unless it’s on purpose.”
Largest Revision Since Obama-Era Recession
The massive job revision was the biggest downward correction since 2009, and it did not go unnoticed. Republican lawmakers were quick to call out the suspicious timing and political nature of the BLS’s previous reports.
Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS), who had previously demanded McEntarfer testify before Congress, said Trump did the right thing.
“For the past year I’ve raised alarms about inaccurate, politically motivated job data. President Trump is finally cleaning this up,” Marshall posted on X.
Trump: “We Need Someone Who Tells the Truth”
President Trump emphasized that he’s reviewing several strong candidates to take over BLS and restore integrity and accuracy to America’s economic reporting.
“We need accurate numbers. We need truthful data. This isn’t just about jobs—it’s about trust,” Trump told reporters. “We’ll bring in someone honest.”
He added that McEntarfer’s reports were designed to make Republicans—and himself—look bad, calling the latest July report “RIGGED.”
