Trump is taking a victory lap on his haters.
President Donald Trump expressed his satisfaction over MSNBC’s decision to cancel Joy Reid’s prime-time show, calling it a much-needed move in response to the network’s biased programming. Trump took to Truth Social, celebrating the decision as long overdue, stating that Reid, a fierce Trump critic, “should have been fired a long time ago.” He also pointed out that MSNBC finally displayed the courage to take action against one of the “least talented” personalities in the industry.
Reid’s show is being axed as part of a broader reshaping of MSNBC’s lineup, which was confirmed by The Hill over the weekend. The move is seen as part of the network’s effort to shift its programming under new leadership, which many believe aligns with the changing political landscape as Trump gears up for a second term. It is expected that former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki may step in to fill one of the prime-time slots, as sources hint at her role in the network’s revamped evening schedule.
Trump didn’t hold back in his criticism, also targeting other key figures at the network, including Rachel Maddow and Alex Wagner. Maddow, who has long been a vocal adversary of Trump, and Wagner, who recently hosted a special on Trump’s first 100 days, are both part of the restructuring. Wagner will remain a correspondent but will no longer anchor the 9 p.m. time slot.
In his post, Trump reaffirmed his belief that MSNBC and other left-leaning media outlets are nothing more than propaganda tools for the Democratic Party, accusing them of spreading misinformation that harms the country. He doubled down on his long-standing stance that these media companies should be held accountable for their actions, even suggesting that they should face significant financial penalties for their role in distorting the truth.
For years, Trump has vowed to hold major media outlets like MSNBC and CNN accountable for their unfair coverage of conservatives and their biased portrayal of his presidency. He has even threatened to leverage the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to investigate companies like Comcast, NBC Universal’s parent company, for their role in fostering politically motivated media narratives. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, appointed by Trump, has already begun making moves in this direction, launching an investigation into Comcast’s diversity, equity, and inclusion policies.
This shake-up at MSNBC is just the latest chapter in the ongoing battle between conservative voices and mainstream media. It signals a broader push for accountability in the media landscape, one that many Republicans feel is long overdue.
