Trump knows how to balance a budget.
On his first day back in office, President Donald Trump took bold action to eliminate divisive diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs within the federal government. An executive order he signed immediately set into motion a series of cuts, including the sidelining of 395 government bureaucrats whose jobs were directly tied to DEI initiatives.
In addition to eliminating these roles, Trump’s newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, revealed that contracts worth $420 million—largely centered on DEI-related programs—had been canceled. The move is being hailed by many Republicans as a necessary step toward reducing wasteful government spending and reining in the expansion of politically motivated programs.
Trump’s executive order instructed the federal Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to begin shutting down DEI offices across the government by the end of January 22, 2025. As part of the closure, employees involved in DEI work were placed on paid leave until further notice, and agencies were ordered to halt any contracts or training sessions connected to diversity initiatives.
The government was also tasked with reviewing all DEI-related contracts and personnel positions, ensuring that any efforts to disguise such programs using vague or politically correct language would be quickly identified and stopped. The OPM demanded that agency heads submit detailed reports outlining the scope of DEI programs in their departments, the employees involved, and any contracts tied to them, including those altered since November 2024 to avoid detection.
Trump’s DEI crackdown is part of a broader effort to restore common sense and fairness in government operations. His administration is also pushing back against race- and sex-based preferences in hiring practices at federal agencies, especially within the Federal Aviation Administration. With these moves, Trump is signaling his commitment to eliminating the radical left’s influence on American institutions, focusing instead on merit, accountability, and equality under the law.
This executive order is a clear message to those in Washington that the days of political correctness and taxpayer-funded social engineering are over. It’s time to prioritize the American people, not the agendas of special interest groups.
