MAGA World is not happy.
Steve Bannon, a key figure in the Trump movement and former White House Chief Strategist, has voiced strong criticism of Justice Amy Coney Barrett for her decision to allow former President Donald Trump’s sentencing to proceed. Speaking with Newsweek, Bannon called Barrett a “disgrace,” accusing her of enabling a “sham” judicial process that could set a dangerous precedent for future presidents.
The controversy stems from the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in early January 2025, when Barrett and Chief Justice John Roberts joined the Court’s liberal justices in rejecting an emergency appeal from Trump’s legal team. The appeal sought to halt Trump’s sentencing over charges related to alleged hush money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. The Court’s decision came just a day before Trump’s sentencing hearing in Manhattan, setting off a backlash among Trump’s supporters, especially those in the MAGA movement.
Bannon, who has long been a staunch ally of Trump and a fierce critic of the establishment, didn’t mince words. He blasted Barrett’s vote, calling it “outrageous” and a betrayal of the conservative cause. “This is a total miscarriage of justice,” Bannon said. “These judges are empowering a system that is weaponized against our side. What they’re doing is giving the green light for future political persecution of leaders who stand up to the swamp.”
Bannon went on to suggest that Barrett should step down from the Supreme Court, making way for Trump to appoint a true conservative justice who would uphold the values of the MAGA movement. In his view, Justice Thomas, who is known for his strong conservative principles, would be a fitting replacement.
The legal battle surrounding Trump has been ongoing for months, stemming from his 2016 campaign’s handling of a payment to Daniels just before the election. While Trump maintains his innocence and claims the case is politically motivated, the legal consequences are starting to pile up. Though Trump received an “unconditional discharge,” meaning no jail time or fines, the conviction still carries serious implications, including felonies on his record, which could affect his future in both politics and business.
In an ironic twist, Bannon also suggested that Justice Clarence Thomas, rather than Roberts, should swear Trump in for his second term as president. According to Bannon, “This is the Thomas Court now. Justice Thomas is the intellectual powerhouse of this bench, and it’s fitting that he take on this role.”
Trump himself has repeatedly called the charges and legal proceedings against him a “political witch hunt” aimed at damaging his reputation and undermining his chances in the 2024 election. Despite these legal battles, Trump remains defiant, claiming that the efforts to discredit him have only strengthened his resolve.
With this unfolding drama, the MAGA base is left wondering if the Supreme Court, particularly conservative justices like Barrett and Roberts, will continue to stand firm on constitutional principles—or if they, too, will become part of the establishment’s effort to bring down one of the most consequential figures in American political history.
