Court Sabotages Trump’s Plans

Trump has been dealt another blow.

A federal appeals court has sided against President Donald Trump, ruling that much of his America First tariff strategy is “illegal.” The divided court voted 7-4, a narrow decision that critics say is designed to weaken Trump’s ability to defend U.S. workers and protect American manufacturing.

The ruling doesn’t immediately end Trump’s tariffs. The court allowed them to stay in place until October 14, giving the Trump administration time to appeal directly to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Trump Fires Back: “Total Disaster If Tariffs End”

On Truth Social, President Trump blasted the decision as a politically motivated attack.

“Ending these tariffs would spell disaster for our nation,” Trump warned. “It would weaken America financially. Our country will no longer accept massive trade deficits and the unfair barriers that foreign nations—whether ally or adversary—use to cripple our manufacturers, farmers, and hardworking citizens.”

Trump cautioned that letting the decision remain in place would “completely devastate the United States.”

Tariffs: The Backbone of Trump’s Economic Agenda

Tariffs remain one of Trump’s strongest weapons in protecting Made in America jobs. They pressure foreign countries like China, Mexico, and the European Union to renegotiate unfair trade deals that have drained U.S. industries for decades.

  • $142 Billion in Tariff Revenue: By July, tariff collections reached $142 billion—more than double the year before.
  • Farmers and Factories Benefit: Trump says tariffs level the playing field for American farmers, manufacturers, and retirees who depend on a strong economy.
  • Historic Precedent: The Trump administration argued that past presidents—including Richard Nixon in 1971—used emergency powers to enforce economic measures.

White House spokesman Kush Desai told Fox News:

“President Trump rightfully used the tariff authority provided by Congress to safeguard America’s national and economic security. The tariffs are still in place, and we are confident they will ultimately be upheld.”

What’s Really at Stake

The legal battle centers on the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), a 1977 law Trump used to impose tariffs during his April 2 “Liberation Day” event. The court’s ruling challenges whether the president can act decisively in emergencies to protect America’s financial strength.

Trump argues that without tariffs, U.S. workers and retirees will face devastating consequences as foreign nations flood American markets with cheap goods.

Bottom Line: Another Supreme Court Showdown

This case is heading toward a Supreme Court showdown that could define the future of U.S. trade policy. For millions of middle-class families and seniors living on fixed incomes, the strength of the American economy is directly on the line.

Trump summed it up best:

“With the help of the Supreme Court, we will Make America Rich, Strong, and Powerful Again.”
