Democrats Defund American Workers

Don’t be fooled. Democrats did this.

Democrats in Washington just dealt another blow to hardworking Americans — blocking a Republican plan that would have guaranteed pay for essential government employees, military personnel, and law enforcement officers during the ongoing 23-day government shutdown.

The bill, sponsored by Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) and Sen. Todd Young (R-IN), fell short in a 54-45 Senate vote, after Democrats united to kill it. Sixty votes were needed to move the measure forward — but Democrats said no.

🔴 Democrats Put Politics Before Paychecks

The GOP bill was simple: keep America’s essential workers paid while politicians argue over spending.
But instead of standing up for those who protect and serve this country, Democrats once again chose politics over people.

Only three Democrats — John Fetterman, Raphael Warnock, and Jon Ossoff — broke ranks to do the right thing. The rest followed Chuck Schumer’s orders and left federal employees twisting in the wind.

Sen. Johnson slammed the decision, saying:

“As Democrats prolong the Schumer Shutdown, the least they could do is make sure federal employees who are still on the job get paid. The 2025 Shutdown Fairness Act provides a lasting solution to guarantee that our service members and essential workers receive their paychecks.”

🗽 Republicans Stand for the American Worker

Republicans called out Democrats for turning a routine funding issue into a political hostage situation.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) said it best:

“It means Democrats don’t care. We know this will end — the question is how much carnage they’ll cause first.”

The shutdown began October 1st, when Democrats rejected a short-term GOP spending bill that would have reopened the government through November 21. Instead, they demanded billions more for Obamacare subsidies — funding that has nothing to do with keeping the lights on in Washington.

💰 Twelve Times Democrats Said “No”

So far, Democrats have voted a dozen times to block bills that would reopen parts of the government.
They even voted down a defense-spending bill — refusing to fund America’s military while insisting on more money for failed pandemic programs.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said the House is ready to act once the Senate does its job:

“If Democrats oppose the Ron Johnson bill, it will be absolutely clear that they’re using the military, air traffic control, and law enforcement personnel as pawns in their political games.”

⚖️ Democrats’ Excuses Don’t Add Up

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) claimed he opposed the bill because it “picked and chose” who got paid — a weak excuse, given Democrats are refusing to pay anyone at all.

Meanwhile, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) called the bill a “political ploy,” falsely suggesting it gave President Trump control over who gets compensated.

The reality? Democrats are holding paychecks hostage until they get more taxpayer money for their left-wing agenda.

🇺🇸 Working Families Deserve Better

While everyday Americans are battling inflation, soaring grocery prices, and record gas costs, Democrats in Washington are playing games with people’s livelihoods.

From border agents to service members to air-traffic controllers, thousands of essential workers are being forced to work without pay because Democrats refuse to compromise.

This is the Schumer Shutdown — and it’s hurting the very people Democrats claim to represent.

As Sen. Johnson warned,

“I just hope, on a nonpartisan basis, we do something that makes sense around here for once.”

But for now, Washington Democrats seem more interested in protecting their political power than protecting American paychecks.
