How do Veterans really feel about Trump?
A new national poll is drawing major attention after many American veterans gave Donald Trump strong marks as commander in chief, highlighting continued support from those who have served in uniform.
The survey from Rasmussen Reports found that a majority of current and former military members believe Trump is a stronger leader on defense and national security than most recent presidents.
Among veterans and active-duty respondents, 52% said Trump is stronger as commander in chief than recent U.S. presidents. For many conservative voters, that number carries weight because it comes from Americans with firsthand military experience.
Across all likely voters, the nation was more divided. The poll found 43% said Trump is stronger in the role, while 44% said he is weaker. Another 8% said he is about the same.
Veterans Compare Trump And Biden
The numbers also create a clear contrast with Joe Biden, whose leadership ratings on military matters were significantly lower among veterans in previous polling.
Four years ago, Rasmussen reported that 64% of veterans believed Biden was a weaker commander in chief. That finding reflected growing frustration over foreign policy decisions, military readiness concerns, and America’s global posture.
For many older voters, veterans, and military families, leadership on defense remains one of the most important issues in any election.
Sharp Political Divide Emerges
The latest poll also showed strong partisan differences.
Nearly seven in ten Republicans said Trump is stronger as commander in chief. Only 22% of Democrats agreed. Independent voters were more split, with 38% saying Trump is stronger than recent presidents.
Men were more likely than women to support Trump’s military leadership, while older Americans showed stronger approval than younger voters.
Backing was also significant among Hispanic voters, with close to half saying Trump performed better as commander in chief than most recent presidents.
National Security Remains Top Issue
The poll comes as Americans continue to watch rising global tensions, border security concerns, defense spending debates, and conflict involving Iran.
For many conservative voters age 50 and older, the survey confirms what they already believe: veterans often place trust in strength, stability, and experienced leadership during dangerous times.
Why This Poll Matters
Veterans are often viewed as one of the most credible groups on questions involving war, peace, readiness, and military command. Their strong support for Trump in this survey could become an important political talking point heading into future elections.
As national security stays front and center, this new poll may fuel even more debate over who Americans trust most to protect the country.
