This is not a good look for Biden.
Bishop Joseph Strickland has now expressed his disapproval and frustration with President Biden and his Health and Human Services (HHS) Sec. Xavier Becerra, who are both Catholics, and have called on them to revisit their faith’s catechism.
Under Biden, Sec. Becerra and the Health and Human services recently revoked waivers for faith-based child welfare groups and also altered enforcement provisions for religious liberty because the Catholic Church denied same-sex couples of certain rights and now Bishop Strickland has just spoken out against their actions.
Strickland, who is clearly upset, referred to Biden and Becerra as “so called Catholics.” According to Fox, Strickland stated, “More brokenness from so[-]called Catholics. Maybe we should send him a Catechism.“
The catechism is a religious doctrine that gives a “natural right” that “ought to be acknowledged in the juridical order of society in such a way that it constitutes a civil right.”
Biden’s HHS recently revoked waivers for Catholic groups after they refused allow same-sex couples to work for faith-based organizations such as foster care agencies.
Becerra responded to the move and said “we treat any violation of civil rights or religious freedoms seriously.”
