Chick-Fil-A Comes Under GOP Fire

America’s favorite Christian food chain is catching new heat.

Chick-fil-A is facing renewed criticism from conservative leaders after reaffirming its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives—policies that critics argue conflict with the company’s long-standing Christian identity.

The debate intensified this week after Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, discussed the issue during an appearance on Newsmax.

Speaking on Rob Schmitt Tonight with guest host Todd Starnes, Perkins questioned why Chick-fil-A continues to emphasize DEI policies while other major corporations have begun pulling back amid consumer and political pushback.

Corporate Shift Raises Eyebrows

Perkins noted that companies such as Coca-Cola have recently scaled down or rebranded similar initiatives. In contrast, he said Chick-fil-A appears committed to maintaining them despite growing controversy.

That decision, Perkins argued, is particularly striking given the fast-food chain’s religious heritage and the faith-based principles championed by its founder, S. Truett Cathy.

For decades, Chick-fil-A was viewed by many customers as a company that openly embraced Christian values—an identity that helped set it apart in a crowded fast-food market.

A Break From the Past?

More than ten years ago, Chick-fil-A drew national attention after publicly supporting traditional marriage, triggering widespread protests and boycotts. At the same time, the stance earned the brand fierce loyalty from conservative consumers who viewed it as standing firm under pressure.

Perkins now says the company’s current messaging and internal policies signal a meaningful shift away from that earlier posture. He pointed to reports of actions at some locations that critics believe are inconsistent with the brand’s previous values.

While acknowledging his past support for Chick-fil-A, Perkins said the company has “clearly changed” and no longer reflects the same principles it once promoted.

Consumers Urged to Respond

Perkins encouraged customers who oppose DEI-driven corporate policies to make their voices heard through their purchasing decisions. He warned that companies that prioritize social activism over their core customer base often face long-term financial consequences.

“It’s one thing to describe yourself as a faith-oriented company,” Perkins said, “but it’s another to adopt values that many longtime supporters believe run counter to that foundation.”

As cultural and political divisions increasingly influence consumer behavior, Chick-fil-A now finds itself navigating scrutiny from the very audience that once helped fuel its rapid nationwide growth.
