Biden is doing everything in his power to keep migrants here.
The Biden administration is preparing to introduce a new initiative granting work permits and protection from deportation to undocumented immigrants married to American citizens, given they have resided in the U.S. for a minimum of ten years.
This initiative, referred to as Parole in Place, aims to facilitate the pathway to permanent legal residency and eventually U.S. citizenship for hundreds of thousands of migrants, according to a report by CBS News.
The proposed policy would effectively modify current regulations, removing barriers that prevent those who entered the country illegally from acquiring green cards without needing to leave the U.S.
In addition, President Biden is advocating for a plan that would enable migrants to seek waivers, simplifying the process for obtaining temporary visas, such as H-1B visas designated for highly skilled workers. This information was also shared by sources with CBS News.
These measures are expected to be announced soon, potentially as early as Tuesday. The announcement coincides with a White House event celebrating the 12th anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. DACA currently protects approximately 530,000 undocumented immigrants who arrived in the U.S. as children from deportation.
The proposed policies are likely to encounter significant opposition from Republican lawmakers, who have historically taken a harder stance on immigration issues. The Biden administration’s approach signals a continued effort to reform immigration policies and provide a more inclusive pathway for undocumented immigrants to integrate into American society.
