Democrats are trying their best to flip the Supreme Court and take away power from Republicans.
The Senate Judiciary Committee has requested Chief Justice John Roberts to appear before them on May 2nd as part of the ongoing Democratic investigation into Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
According to NBC News, Chair Dick Durbin, who is a Democrat from Illinois, has written a letter to Chief Justice Roberts ordering him to testify voluntarily on matters related to Supreme Court ethics. The request has been made in light of allegations that Justice Clarence Thomas, who is a conservative member of the court, has made errors in his past financial disclosures.
“There has been a steady stream of revelations regarding justices falling short of the ethical standards expected of other federal judges and, indeed, of public servants generally,” Durban writes.
The top Democrat went on to write, “These problems were already apparent back in 2011, and the court’s decade-long failure to address them has contributed to a crisis of public confidence. The status quo is no longer tenable.”
In addition to Durbin’s letter requesting Chief Justice Roberts’ appearance on May 2nd to discuss ethics, there are other notable developments in the political arena. The House Judiciary is currently involved in a legal battle to subpoena Mark Pomerantz in relation to the prosecution of former President Donald Trump. Meanwhile, House oversight chairs are conducting an investigation into the handling of Hunter Biden’s alleged involvement in influence-peddling schemes.
Democrats have raised concerns about potential ties between Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and Harlan Crow, a wealthy Republican donor.
In his letter, Senator Durbin indicated that it would be acceptable for Chief Justice Roberts to send another justice in his place on May 2nd. He also assured the Chief Justice that the scope of his testimony could be limited to ethics-related questions.
Senator Durbin also pointed out that there is ample precedent for requesting testimony from Supreme Court justices, and that the last time such a request was made was in October 2011.
It’s truly amazing to see how far Democrats will go to have a conservative Supreme Court Justice, such as Clarence Thomas, removed from the court to once again take back control of it which is their ultimate goal with all of this.
