Do they want to get defunded or what?

A prominent police leadership organization is making headlines as it weighs in on the 2024 presidential race, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris over former President Donald Trump. The Police Leaders for Community Safety, known for its bipartisan stance and dedication to law enforcement advocacy, announced their support for Harris in a statement shared with the media.

This organization is composed of a diverse array of respected police professionals who have led major national law enforcement groups. Their mission is clear: to advocate for policies that enhance community safety, improve policing standards, and uphold the rule of law.

This endorsement comes after the National Fraternal Order of Police, the nation’s largest police union, backed Trump earlier this month. According to Sue Riseling, chair of Police Leaders for Community Safety, this endorsement highlights Harris’s longstanding commitment to public safety and the principles of justice.

David Mahoney, a former sheriff and board member, emphasized Harris’s prosecutorial experience, asserting that she has consistently prioritized victim support and accountability for offenders. He stated, “Her dedication to effective law enforcement policies has been instrumental in fighting crime and protecting our communities.”

Board Vice Chair Rick Myers also weighed in, pointing out the disparity between political rhetoric and actual action. He criticized those who claim to be tough on crime yet fail to implement effective measures to ensure public safety. Myers stated, “We need a leader who truly understands the importance of the Second Amendment while addressing the real issues of gun violence, and Kamala Harris fits that bill.”

As crime remains a top concern for American voters, the political landscape is charged. Trump has criticized Harris, labeling her as soft on crime, and has pledged to push for more aggressive policing measures and reduced federal oversight. He argues that such approaches are necessary to tackle rising crime rates.

On the other hand, Harris’s campaign has focused on highlighting Trump’s legal troubles, including his recent felony conviction, to paint him as a candidate who has consistently undermined law enforcement. Her supporters note the Biden-Harris administration’s efforts to boost funding for law enforcement through pandemic relief, promoting a vision of a balanced approach that combines accountability with community safety.

Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Harris’s campaign manager, pointed to the significant backing the vice president has received from over 100 law enforcement officials and national security experts, emphasizing her track record of effectively enforcing the law and advocating for fairness in the justice system, particularly for marginalized communities.

As the election approaches, the choice for voters is stark: a leader with a proven record in law enforcement or one entangled in legal controversies. The decision will shape the future of public safety and law enforcement in America, making it a pivotal moment for Republican voters to consider.
