These judges keep holding Trump back.
In a move that underscores the growing war between conservative reform and liberal overreach, a federal judge appointed by Barack Obama has blocked President Donald Trump’s executive order aimed at dismantling bloated federal agencies and reining in runaway government spending.
U.S. District Judge John McConnell — who serves in Rhode Island — sided with 21 Democrat-led states that filed suit against the Trump administration’s March 14 executive action to eliminate seven outdated federal agencies. These agencies, long criticized for redundancy and inefficiency, include the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA), and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS).
Democrat States Rush to Preserve Wasteful Bureaucracy
President Trump’s common-sense executive order quickly triggered agency-wide budget reductions, mass layoffs, and a freeze on federal grant disbursements. The aim was clear: reduce taxpayer waste and return power to the people — not unelected bureaucrats.
But left-wing attorneys general, led by Rhode Island’s Peter Neronha, New York’s Letitia James, and Hawaii’s Anne Lopez, rushed to court to stop the cuts. All three are Democrats with a long record of defending big-government programs.
Judge McConnell agreed with their argument that the shutdowns infringed on Congress’s authority. In his ruling, he claimed Trump’s order “disregards the fundamental constitutional role of each of the branches of our federal government,” asserting that only Congress has the right to fund and establish agencies.
Liberal Courts Once Again Undermine Executive Authority
This isn’t the first time Judge McConnell has thrown a wrench into President Trump’s efforts to clean up Washington. He previously blocked a federal grant freeze, prompting outrage among fiscal conservatives and renewed calls for judicial accountability.
Despite the ruling, the Trump administration remains committed to cutting government waste and restoring balance in Washington.
A spokesperson for the Justice Department declared:
“This Department has vigorously defended President Trump’s executive actions, including the order to Reduce the Federal Bureaucracy, and will continue to do so.”
The Fight to Drain the Swamp Isn’t Over
While liberal judges and Democrat officials work overtime to protect the deep state and keep taxpayer dollars flowing to pet projects, President Trump’s mission remains the same: streamline government, eliminate waste, and return control to American citizens.
The battle between executive leadership and activist courts is heating up — and the American people are watching closely.
