This is outrageous.
A federal judge has delivered a major setback to President Donald Trump’s efforts to restore America’s energy independence, striking down his temporary freeze on new wind-energy development—a ruling already being celebrated by Democrat officials and environmental activists.
The decision hits at the center of Trump’s broader push to reverse Joe Biden’s heavily subsidized green-energy agenda, which conservatives argue has weakened America’s power grid, raised energy prices, and handed special treatment to politically connected wind companies.
Judge Rules Against Trump’s Wind Freeze
On Monday, U.S. District Judge Patti Saris overturned the Trump administration’s halt on new wind permits and leasing. The pause, issued on Trump’s first day back in office, required federal agencies to temporarily stop approving new wind projects while reviewing the impact of large-scale wind development on energy reliability, ocean ecosystems, and America’s fishing industry.
Seventeen Democrat-led states, Washington, D.C., and a New York wind-energy lobbying group filed suit almost immediately. Judge Saris sided with them, calling the freeze “arbitrary and capricious” and claiming federal agencies did not provide enough justification beyond carrying out the president’s order.
Saris went even further, arguing that agencies failed to perform a full analysis before enforcing the pause—even though environmental reviews for wind projects are notoriously lengthy and politically contentious.
With one ruling, the nationwide freeze was vacated, reopening the door for wind farms from New England to California.
White House Pushes Back: Biden’s Green Favoritism Hurt American Energy
The Trump White House responded sharply, pointing out that Biden spent four years giving wind developers special treatment while burdening traditional American energy with mountains of regulation.
White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers said that during Joe Biden’s so-called “Green New Scam,” offshore wind companies received special favors while traditional American energy producers were pushed aside.
Rogers emphasized that Trump’s order aimed to protect Americans from skyrocketing energy costs, defend vulnerable marine ecosystems, and restore a balanced approach to U.S. energy production.
Rogers added that President Trump has stopped Biden’s assault on U.S. energy and reignited America’s energy strength to safeguard both our economy and national security.
Democrat Officials Celebrate the Ruling
New York Attorney General Letitia James—one of Trump’s most vocal opponents—immediately took a victory lap on social media, calling the ruling a triumph for the climate agenda.
Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell also praised the decision, claiming it safeguards “green jobs” and moves the state closer to its climate goals.
What This Means for America’s Energy Future
The judge’s decision is expected to accelerate massive offshore wind projects already facing fierce backlash from fishermen, coastal communities, and environmental groups worried about whale deaths, ocean disruption, and higher utility bills.
For millions of Americans—especially seniors living on fixed incomes—energy reliability and affordability remain top concerns. Many fear the rapid expansion of wind power will lead to higher costs and fewer protections for domestic energy production.
Trump’s team is widely expected to appeal the ruling, setting up another major showdown over America’s energy direction.
