First Lady Melania Trump is inviting Americans to become part of one of the nation’s most cherished Christmas traditions by volunteering at the White House during the 2026 holiday season.
Although Christmas is still months away, preparations are already underway at the White House, where hundreds of volunteers help transform the historic residence into one of America’s most celebrated holiday displays.
On Monday, Melania Trump officially announced that applications are now open for volunteers and performers who wish to participate in this year’s White House Christmas festivities.
According to the announcement, Americans from all 50 states and U.S. territories are encouraged to apply for the opportunity to help decorate the White House or perform during the annual holiday open houses.

Every year, volunteers spend days decorating the White House with Christmas trees, wreaths, lights, garlands, and other festive displays before thousands of visitors arrive to experience the holiday decorations.

Who Can Volunteer?
Americans interested in serving as White House Christmas volunteers must meet a few basic requirements.
Applicants must:
- Be U.S. citizens
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be available during the decorating week beginning November 23
- Be capable of physical work, including lifting decorations, climbing ladders, and standing for extended periods
The White House notes that decorating requires teamwork and physical effort as volunteers prepare the Executive Mansion for one of the busiest visitor seasons of the year.
Musicians and Performers Also Needed
The White House is also accepting applications from performers, including:

- Choirs
- Holiday music groups
- Seasonal entertainers
Selected performers will participate in holiday open houses throughout December, helping welcome visitors with traditional Christmas music and entertainment.
Important Deadlines
Applications for both volunteers and performers must be submitted by August 28.
Those selected will receive notification by October 2.
While volunteers receive two meals each day during their service, they are responsible for their own transportation, lodging, and other personal expenses.
