Musk Deals Huge Blow To Trump-Hater McConnell

Musk to the rescue.

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk is stepping directly into one of the most closely watched Republican Senate races in the country, delivering a major financial boost to Kentucky businessman Nate Morris as longtime Sen. Mitch McConnell prepares to retire.

According to multiple reports, Musk contributed $10 million last week to a super PAC backing Morris, instantly reshaping the Republican primary contest. The contribution is one of the largest political donations Musk has made this election cycle outside of efforts directly tied to President Donald Trump.

The super PAC, Fight for Kentucky, had reported less than $50,000 in available funds in its most recent federal filing. Musk’s donation dramatically changes that financial picture and gives Morris immediate visibility statewide.

Morris, 45, built his career in the private sector after founding the waste and recycling company Rubicon, which was later sold in a multibillion-dollar transaction. He is now competing against Rep. Andy Barr and former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron for the open Senate seat.

McConnell, the longest-serving party leader in U.S. Senate history, has frequently drawn criticism from conservative voters for his public clashes with President Trump—particularly following the disputed 2020 election. Morris has leaned into that frustration, positioning himself as an outsider challenging what many grassroots Republicans see as a Washington establishment.

A source familiar with Musk’s decision said the tech executive recently spoke with Morris and was impressed by his business experience and his willingness to challenge McConnell’s legacy within the Republican Party.

Barr currently maintains a significant fundraising advantage, reporting more than $6.4 million cash on hand at the end of last year. Morris, whose campaign has largely relied on personal loans, reported approximately $1.5 million before Musk’s donation.

Barr’s campaign has downplayed the impact of the billionaire’s involvement, arguing that additional spending by Morris has not translated into voter support. Morris’s team, however, insists the race is shifting, citing growing grassroots enthusiasm among pro-Trump voters.

Musk’s renewed political activity follows earlier remarks suggesting he planned to reduce his involvement in campaign spending. Since rebuilding his relationship with President Trump, Musk has once again become a major financial force in Republican politics.

On social media, Musk has warned that Democratic victories would lead to expanded illegal immigration, election integrity concerns, and permanent political changes in the country. He has also signaled strong support for Republican efforts to maintain control of Congress in the upcoming midterm elections.

So far this cycle, Musk has committed tens of millions of dollars to pro-GOP and pro-Trump political action committees, reinforcing his growing influence within conservative political circles.

Early polling suggests Republicans remain favored to hold the Kentucky Senate seat in the general election, regardless of which candidate wins the primary. Establishment figures have largely backed Barr, while Morris has attracted endorsements from conservative lawmakers and figures aligned with the MAGA movement.

President Trump has not yet issued an endorsement in the Kentucky Republican primary, leaving the race open. With Musk’s multimillion-dollar backing now in play, the contest to replace Mitch McConnell is rapidly becoming one of the most expensive and closely watched Senate primaries of the year.
