California Democrats Suffer Major Defeat in Court as Trump’s Trade Policies Hold Strong

A San Francisco federal judge appointed by President Joe Biden has dismissed a high-profile lawsuit from California Democrats targeting President Donald Trump’s America First tariff policy. The ruling delivers a legal and political win for Trump’s efforts to defend American jobs, industries, and national sovereignty.

Newsom and Bonta’s Lawsuit Tossed Out

Governor Gavin Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta had filed suit against President Trump and several federal agencies, claiming his tariffs were unconstitutional and exceeded executive authority. But Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley ruled the case could not proceed in California’s federal court, citing jurisdictional issues.

Rather than allowing the case to be transferred to the U.S. Court of International Trade—as the Trump administration requested—the Biden-appointed judge threw it out entirely. This now forces California to appeal to the liberal Ninth Circuit Court, a move many legal observers view as a long shot.

Trump’s Tariffs Defended as National Security Tool

The Trump administration has stood firm, stating that the tariffs were a necessary response to America’s dangerously high trade deficits and foreign economic threats. The 10% “Liberation Day” tariffs—aimed at China, Mexico, and even California-based industries—were part of a broader economic protection plan under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

While liberal judges in New York and Washington, D.C., questioned the scope of IEEPA last week, Corley’s decision wasn’t based on the policy itself—but rather on procedure. That means Trump’s signature trade policy remains intact for now, dealing a fresh setback to Democrat-led efforts to undermine his economic agenda.

California Democrats Lash Out

Rob Bonta quickly released a statement claiming the dismissal was a victory because it allows an appeal. “We believe Trump doesn’t have the authority to impose these destructive tariffs,” he said—despite the fact that the dismissal favored the Trump administration.

Governor Newsom, meanwhile, resorted to partisan insults on a left-wing podcast, declaring, “It’s raining TACOS today”—a crude jab using a Wall Street acronym mocking Trump. Such rhetoric may resonate with radical activists but does little to address California’s failing economy or the concerns of working-class Americans.

Trump’s Pro-America Agenda Still Standing Tall

President Trump’s tariffs remain a cornerstone of his broader plan to restore U.S. manufacturing, reduce dependency on hostile nations, and reassert economic independence. While California Democrats continue their political stunts in the courtroom, everyday Americans are watching a leader fight for jobs, factories, and fair trade.

With the appeal now headed to the Ninth Circuit, the contrast couldn’t be clearer: one side fights for America’s future—while the other keeps trying to tear it down.
