AOC is playing with fire.
On Wednesday, Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) joined forces to shockingly mock a new advertisement campaign targeting Ocasio-Cortez, who is currently facing a challenge in the Democratic primary.
The Job Creators Network, a conservative activist organization, is supporting Ocasio-Cortez’s primary challenger with a billboard in Times Square. This advertisement criticizes her for being ineffective on crime and immigration issues and failing to generate jobs.
Ocasio-Cortez responded to the campaign with humor, noting that Manhattan, the location of the billboard, is not part of her congressional district.
In a social media post, she quipped, “D-Margaritaville,” referencing the Jimmy Buffett-themed restaurant located in Times Square.
Frost chimed in, replying, “That’s over here,” adding to the light-hearted exchange.
The billboard is part of a significant advertising expenditure by the Job Creators Network in support of Wall Street investor Marty Dolan. According to the New York Post, this marks the first instance of the group backing a Democrat.
Job Creators Network CEO Alfredo Ortiz expressed to the Post that “AOC is a threat to American small businesses and the American way of life. Her policies are responsible for the crime, migrant, and economic crises affecting her constituents in New York and across the country.”
Ortiz further stated, “Democrat Marty Dolan offers a much-needed moderate voice that will support small businesses and working families in New York City and beyond. Residents of New York City who want to halt the damage caused by AOC should vote for Dolan now.”
Despite the support, Dolan faces an uphill battle against the incumbent Ocasio-Cortez, who is seeking her third term. Federal filings reveal that she has amassed nearly $8 million for her reelection campaign, while Dolan has raised only $80,000.
