Schiff has stooped to a disgusting new low.
Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) has launched a fierce critique of Kash Patel, President Donald Trump’s pick to lead the FBI, following a New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans. Appearing on Meet the Press, Schiff argued that the attack highlights why someone like Patel, who has no formal law enforcement background and has repeatedly peddled conspiracy theories, should not be confirmed as FBI director.
Schiff stated that the FBI needs a leader with experience, sound judgment, and strong character—someone who will prioritize national security and protect the American people from domestic threats, like the violence seen in New Orleans or the Capitol on January 6th. He expressed concerns about Patel’s qualifications, arguing that the agency should not be led by someone with a history of fueling political vendettas and spreading “deep state” conspiracy theories.
Kash Patel, a staunch Trump ally, has drawn controversy over his role in perpetuating the debunked claim that the 2020 presidential election was “stolen.” In addition to these baseless claims, Patel has criticized the so-called “deep state,” alleging that entrenched government officials are working to undermine Trump’s presidency. His comments on a podcast with Steve Bannon further raised alarms, as he vowed to go after journalists, lawyers, and judges who he believes mistreated Trump. He even called for investigating media figures he accused of colluding to “rig” the 2020 election.
Despite this criticism, some Republicans, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.), have defended Patel. Thune, who met with Patel, expressed confidence that Patel would focus on restoring trust in the FBI and ensuring it protects American citizens. Thune also acknowledged the need for FBI reform, noting that public confidence in the agency has eroded. He hoped that Patel, if confirmed, would take the responsibility seriously and prioritize the bureau’s mission.
While Thune stopped short of committing his vote, he emphasized the importance of giving Patel a fair confirmation process. As the confirmation battle continues, it’s clear that the future of the FBI hinges not just on political loyalty but on leadership that can restore the agency’s credibility and commitment to justice.
