How could this have happened?

It has now been learned that the Secret Service did not inform the Capitol Police about a threat made against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi which was related to the January 6th Capitol riot until the riot had already started.

According to The Hill, the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) released a new report that had a copy of email communications between officials during the time of the riot.

CREW found one email which was dated Jan. 6, 2021, at 5:55 p.m. that said it was “passing notification to the US Capitol Police regarding discovery of a social media threat directed toward Speaker Nancy Pelosi.”

After investigating further into the new discovery, Secret Service found several messages threatening House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. It has now been alleged that the Secret Service did not act fast enough to alert the Capitol Police about these threats until it was too late and the riot officially started.

The Secret Service reacted to this new by saying that they have an “outstanding working relationship” with other law enforcement agencies.

“While we do not comment on issues pertaining to protective intelligence, the United States Secret Service has an outstanding working relationship with all law enforcement agencies in the National Capitol Region,” a spokesperson for the Secret Service said.
