Nobody saw this coming!
Billionaire Bill Gates recently shared an intriguing account of his dinner with President-elect Donald Trump, offering a rare look into their conversation that spanned nearly three hours. Gates, who supported Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, came away from the meeting surprisingly optimistic about Trump’s leadership and vision for the future.
“I had the opportunity to have a long and actually quite thought-provoking dinner with him about two weeks ago,” Gates told The Wall Street Journal. He noted that their discussion covered a variety of topics, with a focus on public health, which has been a key area of Gates’ philanthropic work. Despite their political differences, Gates was impressed by Trump’s enthusiasm and engagement on the issues they discussed. “I felt like he was energized and looking forward to helping drive innovation,” Gates remarked, adding that Trump showed genuine interest in the challenges he raised.
This dinner is just one of many recent meetings between President-elect Trump and some of the biggest names in business and technology. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos also dined with Trump at Mar-a-Lago, where he pledged $1 million to the president-elect’s inaugural fund. Similarly, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, made a $1 million contribution and even showcased the company’s new Ray-Ban Smart Glasses during a November meeting with Trump.
Trump’s relationship with billionaires and tech moguls has evolved significantly since 2020, especially after his ban from several social media platforms. Even with some past tensions, there seems to be a renewed sense of collaboration. Zuckerberg recently admitted that Meta’s previous fact-checking policies, implemented after Trump’s 2016 victory, caused more harm than good. He acknowledged the “censorship” issue and is now pushing for more “free expression” on Facebook and Instagram.
With leaders like Gates, Bezos, and Zuckerberg now working closely with the incoming administration, it’s clear that Trump’s influence is regaining momentum in Silicon Valley and beyond. His ability to connect with influential figures from all corners of American business suggests a productive and forward-thinking future.
