Democrats don’t like this.

Former President Trump has expressed his intention to attend the wake of Officer Jonathan Diller, a member of the New York Police Department (NYPD) who tragically lost his life in the line of duty earlier this week. Officer Diller was fatally shot during a routine traffic stop in Queens on Monday, marking the first NYPD officer death in over two years. The wake to honor Officer Diller is scheduled for Thursday.

Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign, conveyed the former President’s deep empathy upon receiving the invitation to stand alongside Officer Diller’s family and colleagues as they grapple with the profound loss. The Associated Press reported her statement regarding Trump’s acknowledgment of the senseless tragedy.

Following swift police action, both suspects involved in the shooting have been apprehended. Guy Rivera faces charges of murder, while Lindy Jones has been arraigned on charges related to illegal possession of weapons. The confrontation unfolded when Rivera resisted Officer Diller’s instructions to exit his vehicle during the traffic stop, ultimately resulting in the fatal shooting. Officer Diller heroically returned fire, injuring Rivera, but tragically succumbed to his wounds despite immediate medical attention.

Mayor Eric Adams, himself a former police officer, condemned the shooting as “devastating” and emphasized the stark reality of law enforcement facing perilous situations while serving the community.

Trump’s decision to attend Officer Diller’s wake occurs against the backdrop of his previous utilization of crime as a political talking point, often portraying American cities as hotbeds of danger and attributing blame to Democrats. However, national crime statistics indicate a decline in violent crime rates across many regions in recent years, including a notable 11 percent decrease in cities with populations exceeding one million, as reported by FBI data released this month.

The funeral service to honor Officer Diller’s sacrifice is scheduled to take place in New York City on Saturday, providing an opportunity for dignitaries, law enforcement officials, and the community to pay their respects and honor his memory.
