It’s a new witch hunt every week.
The Department of Justice is now investigating former President Donald Trump and what exactly his role was in a new criminal probe to determine if he tried to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
According to the Washington Post, this news comes from four insiders who are very familiar with this matter. Prosecutors are now interrogating a number of witnesses including two top aides who worked under Vice President Mike Pence.
These Pence aides have been asked about their interactions with President Trump directly and conversations with his lawyers and others in Trump’s inner circle.
The DOJ is also inquiring about whether or not Trump asked asked Vice President Mike Pence to not certify the election results.
Democrats are currently furious with the Justice Department because they believe they are moving too slow in their investigations. Attorney General Merrick Garland argued back against Democrats and said that his prosecutors have been moving “urgently since the very beginning.”
“The reason there is this speculation and uncertainty is that it’s a fundamental tenet of what we do as prosecutors and investigators is to do it outside of the public eye,” Garland said.
“We pursue justice without fear or favor. We intend to hold everyone, anyone who was criminally responsible for the events surrounding January 6, for any attempt to interfere with the lawful transfer of power from one administration to another, accountable, that’s what we do,” Merrick Garland said. “We don’t pay any attention to other issues with respect to that.”
