President Donald Trump reignited his long-running feud with NBA superstar LeBron James on Friday, suggesting the basketball icon could be “a racist” while making it clear he believes basketball legend Michael Jordan is the greatest player of all time.
Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump was asked whether he preferred James or Jordan. The president didn’t hesitate to answer.
“Michael Jordan is a friend of mine,” Trump said. “I’ve golfed with him. He’s a really good guy.”
Trump then turned to James, saying he believes the four-time NBA champion may dislike him personally.
“I think LeBron is maybe a racist, but maybe he just doesn’t like Trump,” the president said. “I only like people who like me, so I’d take Michael Jordan every time.”
The comments quickly drew attention because they came just after the surprise announcement that James had agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers after spending last season with the Los Angeles Lakers.
