Democrats are compiling a list of candidates who can replace Biden. Who knew?

On Wednesday, Maryland Democratic Governor Wes Moore addressed and dispelled rumors that he might step in for President Biden as the Democratic presidential nominee if the president cannot continue his campaign. Speaking on “Fox and Friends,” Moore firmly expressed his support for Biden in response to co-host Brian Kilmeade’s mention of his name being floated as a potential replacement candidate.

“I am wholeheartedly behind President Biden,” Moore stated to Kilmeade, who suggested that Moore’s name has been mentioned as a potential successor if the situation arises at the August convention. Moore highlighted the achievements of his administration since his inauguration, noting significant improvements in Maryland’s employment and crime rates. “When I took office, we ranked 43rd in unemployment. Now, we boast one of the lowest unemployment rates nationwide. Additionally, we have seen substantial reductions in homicide and violent crime rates.”

At 45, Moore emphasized the collaboration between his administration and the Biden administration and voiced enthusiasm for Biden’s potential second term. Kilmeade continued to press Moore about his readiness to step in as a candidate, but Moore reiterated his stance, stating, “President Biden is not only the nominee but also the best candidate for the presidency, and that is why he has my full support.”

Moore, along with other Democratic governors such as California’s Gavin Newsom and Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer, has been speculated as a possible replacement for Biden or a contender for the 2028 election. The Democratic Party is expected to officially renominate Biden through a virtual roll call before the August 7 deadline to qualify for the Ohio ballot, followed by the national convention in Chicago from August 19-22.

Governor Moore, elected in 2022, gained national attention following the March incident when a cargo ship collided with Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge, causing its collapse. Recently, the main shipping channel of the Port of Baltimore reopened after nearly 11 weeks of cleanup, with Maryland officials continuing efforts to rebuild the 1.6-mile-long bridge.

During the interview, Moore also addressed two high-profile murder cases in Maryland involving migrants who entered the US illegally. He defended President Biden while criticizing Congress for its failure to address the border crisis. “The longstanding inaction and lack of courage in Washington have led to these issues,” Moore argued. “People in my state are suffering because Congress has not taken decisive action.”

Moore’s comments underscore his dedication to his current role as governor and his unwavering support for President Biden’s leadership and reelection campaign.
