Trump dismantled the Democrat party so badly they may never recover.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer dismissed recent speculation of a primary challenge from Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), after criticism arose due to his support of a Republican-backed spending bill.
Progressive Criticism Over Republican Spending Bill
AOC, a leading progressive voice, strongly criticized Schumer for backing a spending measure passed by the Republican-controlled House. The bill, aimed at preventing a government shutdown, drew sharp reactions from progressives who felt Schumer had prioritized Republican interests over Democratic voters.
“I believe that’s a tremendous mistake,” Ocasio-Cortez remarked during a CNN appearance.
Democratic Party Rifts Exposed
This controversy underscores deep divisions within the Democratic Party. In a recent New York Times interview, Schumer appeared unconcerned about reports that some Democrats privately support Ocasio-Cortez running against him in the 2028 Senate election. “That’s a long time from now,” he commented.
Schumer Prioritizes Opposing Trump
Schumer emphasized his main focus remains opposing President Donald Trump. “My focus is on reducing Trump’s support, exposing his past actions, and warning Americans of the dangers of his potential return,” Schumer said, confidently adding, “My work against Trump will prove successful.”
Controversial Spending Bill Draws More Criticism
Representative Rosa DeLauro joined AOC in criticizing the temporary funding measure, claiming in an MSNBC column that it “benefits billionaires like Elon Musk and allows President Trump to exploit hardworking Americans, seniors, veterans, and small businesses to fund billionaire tax breaks.”
Schumer, however, continues to defend his decision, arguing that preventing a shutdown was crucial, despite ongoing disagreements within his party.
