Newsom needs to resign.
The Trump administration is taking bold legal action against California, accusing the state of violating federal civil rights laws by prioritizing radical gender ideology over fairness in girls’ sports.
In a lawsuit filed by the Department of Justice this week, California officials are charged with breaking Title IX, the federal law that guarantees equal opportunities for women in education and athletics. The suit claims the California Department of Education and California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) have actively allowed biological males to compete against girls, robbing young women of podium finishes, awards, scholarships, and dignity.
“This discrimination is not only illegal and unfair—it’s a direct insult to every girl who has trained, sacrificed, and earned her place,” the DOJ stated.
Trump Administration Fights Back Against Gender Politics in Schools
The lawsuit calls for a full stop to these controversial practices, demands compensation for female athletes, and insists California begin issuing public apologies and compliance reports for the next five years.
This aggressive legal push follows a similar investigation involving transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, where the University of Pennsylvania was forced to strip Thomas of her women’s swimming titles and issue written apologies to every biological female competitor affected.
One affected student, Katie McGuinness, lost her shot at a championship in May after being forced to compete against a biological male. Now, the Trump administration is demanding justice.
“Women fought hard for their rights under Title IX, and President Trump is standing firm to protect them,” said Education Secretary Linda McMahon in an interview with Fox News.
$44 Billion in Federal Funds on the Line for California
California received $44.3 billion in federal education funds this year. That funding is legally conditioned on compliance with Title IX. If the state refuses to adjust its policies, the Trump administration has made it clear: that money could be cut.
Despite this, California officials continue to dig in their heels. Governor Gavin Newsom, who has championed far-left gender policies, recently admitted in a public appearance that the issue of fairness in women’s sports is a “struggle”—but still refuses to reverse course.
“I don’t think it’s fair,” Newsom said, “but I also don’t like how conservatives talk about the trans community.”
Public Opinion—and Biology—Side with Trump
A New York Times poll in January found that a majority of Americans, including up to 69% of Democrats, support sex-segregated sports. Meanwhile, scientific studies confirm that biological males maintain physical advantages, even after hormone therapy.
“Even Gavin Newsom has admitted it’s unfair,” said Attorney General Pam Bondi. “This isn’t just unfair—it’s illegal under federal law. And we’re going to keep fighting.”
As the legal battle escalates, the message from President Trump’s DOJ is clear: girls deserve a level playing field, and woke politics have no place in school sports.
