Illegal Immigrant With Violent Past Wrongly Portrayed as “Victim” in Mainstream Media
The Trump administration is firing back after The New York Times published what officials are calling a misleading and dangerous headline about a deported illegal immigrant accused of gang affiliation and domestic violence.
On Thursday, The Times featured a front-page story titled:
“Senator Meets With Wrongly Deported Maryland Man In El Salvador.”
But according to Trump officials, the reality behind this so-called “wrongly deported man” is far more serious — and the media narrative is dangerously false.
Who Is Kilmar Abrego Garcia?
The man at the center of the controversy is Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a 29-year-old illegal immigrant previously living in Maryland. In March, Garcia was deported to El Salvador’s notorious “Terrorism Confinement Center” (CECOT) — a maximum-security prison used to detain gang members and violent criminals, including members of MS-13, one of the world’s most violent criminal organizations.
While some reports claimed Garcia was deported in error, Trump administration sources now say that not only was his removal justified — but he also poses a serious risk to the safety of American citizens.
Senator Chris Van Hollen’s Controversial Visit
Maryland Democrat Senator Chris Van Hollen traveled to El Salvador this week to meet with Garcia in person. He claimed the man had been “illegally abducted” and that his rights were being violated.
“Meeting with Kilmar was the primary purpose of my visit, and this evening, I was able to do just that,” Van Hollen shared on social media following the encounter.
The Senator also contacted Garcia’s wife and shared a “message of love” from the prisoner — a move that sparked outrage among conservative voters and members of the Trump administration.
Trump Responds: “GRANDSTANDER!”
President Donald Trump did not mince words, posting on Truth Social:
“Senator Chris Van Hollen made a spectacle of himself in El Salvador yesterday, desperate for attention from the dishonest media—or anyone who would listen. Classic political grandstanding!”
The official White House social media account also slammed The New York Times for its headline, posting a revised version that more accurately described the situation:
“Senator Meets With Deported MS-13 Illegal Alien In El Salvador Who’s Never Coming Back.”
They added a direct message to the Senator:
“Oh, and by the way, @ChrisVanHollen — he’s NOT coming back.”
Shocking Domestic Violence Allegations
Newly released documents now paint an even darker picture of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. According to court filings obtained by Fox News, Garcia’s wife accused him of repeated acts of domestic violence during their relationship.
In a 2021 handwritten statement submitted to the court, she wrote:
“At this point, I am afraid to be close to him. I have multiple photos/videos of how violent he can be and all the bruises he [has] left me.”
These revelations raise serious questions about why any U.S. official would advocate for his return — and why the media would frame him as a victim.
Legal Battle Over Deportation Continues
Despite public concern and the release of disturbing new information, activist judges in both a federal district court and the U.S. Supreme Court have ordered the Trump administration to “facilitate” Garcia’s return for further immigration hearings.
However, the administration has made its position crystal clear:
Garcia will not be allowed back into the United States.
What This Means for American Safety and Immigration Policy
This case underscores the dangers of the Left’s open borders agenda and the media’s refusal to report the truth. While liberal outlets continue to frame criminals as victims, President Trump and his administration remain committed to protecting American families from gang violence and abuse.
The bigger question: Why are U.S. senators flying overseas to defend violent criminals instead of standing up for law-abiding Americans?
Bottom Line:
The Trump administration isn’t backing down — and neither should the American people. As the 2024 election draws closer, this case is a stark reminder of the critical choice we face: law and order under Trump, or chaos under liberal appeasement.
