Trump Popularity Bombshell

Here’s why this is happening.

Americans are divided on how well President Donald Trump is handling the economy, government reform, and some of his early policy proposals. A recent poll, conducted between February 13-18, reveals that while Trump’s approach resonates with a significant number of Republicans, many voters are critical of certain aspects of his agenda.

Inflation has been a major concern for many Americans, contributing to Trump’s 2016 election win, but it continues to weigh heavily on voters’ minds. According to the survey, 58% of respondents say inflation will influence their vote in upcoming elections. However, only 32% approve of Trump’s handling of the issue. Additionally, economic sentiment among households dropped to its lowest level in over a year.

One of Trump’s more controversial proposals—the idea of having the U.S. take control of Gaza and resettle Palestinians elsewhere—has not found widespread support. Only 25% of Americans, including just half of Republicans, support the idea. Critics, such as Willard Moore, a Republican lawyer from New York, argue that such a proposal would be costly and ultimately ineffective.

Trump’s push to shrink the size of the federal government is seen as an important issue by many, but it’s also deeply divisive. The creation of a task force, led by Elon Musk, to cut government spending has divided the public. While 60% say the effort would impact their vote in the 2026 elections, only 42% support the initiative. Even among Republicans, there’s skepticism about how quickly it’s being pursued.

Another divisive issue for Trump is his proposal to eliminate the Department of Education. This plan faces strong opposition, with 65% of Americans, including 40% of Republicans, against it. Some, like Mikeriah Perry, a North Carolina mother of a child with autism, fear the loss of specialized educational resources.

On the immigration front, Trump’s call to increase deportations remains popular with his base. About 55% of Americans support ramped-up deportations, although his approval on immigration policy sits below 50%.

Trump’s tariff proposals, especially against Canada, have drawn criticism from many, including Republicans. Still, the president maintains strong support among his base, especially when it comes to his efforts to reduce government spending and secure the border.

While Trump’s bold initiatives have stirred debate, his supporters remain loyal, with many prioritizing his overall direction. Despite the mixed feedback, Trump’s commitment to reshaping government and standing firm on immigration policy continues to energize his core supporters heading into future elections.
