In his State of the State address, Gov. Dunleavy called the GraphiteOne project the largest of its kind in North America and emphasized Alaska’s role as a “strategic powerhouse” for the metals shaping 21st-century American manufacturing.
He praised President Trump for restoring U.S. mineral independence after years of neglect and for ensuring that America never again relies on “entities of concern” like China for essential resources.
Pennsylvania Discovery Strengthens U.S. Position Even Further
Alaska isn’t the only state helping America break China’s monopoly.
In Pennsylvania, researchers and former Rep. Lou Barletta highlighted rare earth deposits hidden inside the region’s anthracite coal fields. Some contain up to 17 different REEs, offering yet another opportunity to weaken China’s grip.
Penn State researchers recently announced new methods to recover cobalt, manganese, and nickel from long-abandoned mines — turning forgotten coal country into a potential high-value resource hub.
