Trump appeared on former personal attorney Michael Cohen’s WABC radio program, where the two men discussed their bitter history, Cohen’s testimony against Trump and allegations that prosecutors placed enormous pressure on the former Trump lawyer.
But instead of another round of attacks, Trump offered Cohen something few Americans would have expected several years ago: praise.
Trump called Cohen’s recent actions “brave” and suggested his former attorney deserves respect for speaking publicly about the pressure he says he faced.
The extraordinary exchange represents a dramatic turnaround in a relationship that once appeared permanently destroyed.
Trump Praises His Former Attorney
During the interview, Trump argued that Cohen had been caught up in what the president has long described as the political “weaponization” of America’s justice system.
Trump specifically pointed to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and New York Attorney General Letitia James, two Democratic officials whose offices pursued major cases involving Trump.
“Look, you took back, you recanted your testimony,” Trump told Cohen.
Trump claimed Cohen had faced threats of imprisonment and other consequences as authorities sought his cooperation against the president.
According to Trump, that pressure eventually became too much.
“A lot of people wouldn’t have been able to take it,” Trump said.

The president also revisited one of the most dramatic moments in Cohen’s downfall: the 2018 FBI raids involving Cohen’s office, home and hotel room.
