Anti-Trump Reporter Fired

Words have consquences.

MSNBC has fired political analyst Matthew Dowd after he made shocking, inflammatory remarks just hours after conservative leader Charlie Kirk was assassinated at a university event.

The network’s delayed apology and muted response have fueled backlash among conservatives who say it’s another example of mainstream media bias.

Charlie Kirk’s Assassination Rocks the Nation

America was stunned on Wednesday afternoon when Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA and a rising conservative star, was gunned down during a live Q&A session at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

Video footage captured the terrifying moment the shots rang out, sending the audience screaming and scattering for safety. Federal authorities, including the FBI and the Utah Department of Public Safety, immediately launched a full-scale investigation.

Officials confirmed that two men were briefly taken into custody, but both were later released:

  • George Zinn was charged with obstruction.
  • Zachariah Qureshi was questioned and cleared of any direct involvement.

As of Thursday morning, no official motive has been announced, leaving millions of Americans demanding answers and praying for justice.

MSNBC Guest Blames Victim, Sparks Backlash

Incredibly, while Americans were still grieving, MSNBC aired a segment that outraged viewers nationwide.

Matthew Dowd, a network analyst and longtime anti-Trump figure, suggested Kirk himself helped create the “environment” that led to his own death.

“Kirk has been one of the most divisive young figures,” Dowd said.
“Hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions. That’s the environment we are in.”

Dowd even speculated — without evidence — that the shooting “could have been a supporter firing a gun in celebration.”

Conservatives across social media erupted, accusing MSNBC of justifying political violence against one of the movement’s most influential voices.

MSNBC Forced to Apologize

Facing intense public pressure, MSNBC finally issued an apology, though critics blasted the network for burying it on a secondary public relations account instead of their main X page.

MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler explained:

“Matthew Dowd’s remarks were completely out of line and deeply inappropriate. Violence has no place in our nation — whether political or otherwise. We sincerely apologize for what was said, and Mr. Dowd has also issued his own apology.”

Shortly after the apology, Deadline confirmed Dowd had been fired, citing the “furor over remarks he made in the aftermath of the shooting.”

Dowd Issues His Own Apology

After being terminated, Dowd attempted to backtrack with a post on Bluesky:

“My thoughts and prayers are with Charlie Kirk’s family and friends.
I apologize for my tone and words. Let me be clear: I in no way intended to blame Charlie Kirk for this horrendous attack. Let us come together and condemn violence of any kind.”

President Trump Pays Tribute to Charlie Kirk

President Donald Trump shared a heartfelt message on Truth Social, mourning the loss of his ally and friend:

“The incredible and truly remarkable Charlie Kirk has passed away. No one had a deeper connection with America’s youth or fought harder for their future than Charlie. He was admired and loved by so many — myself included — and his loss is immeasurable. Melania and I send our heartfelt condolences to his wonderful wife, Erika, and their family. Charlie, you will be forever loved and missed.”

Trump’s statement was met with an outpouring of grief and support from across the conservative movement.

Media Bias on Full Display

This tragedy has united conservatives in sorrow but also highlighted a disturbing pattern: When political violence targets the right, mainstream outlets downplay it or even shift blame to the victims.

The firing of Matthew Dowd was necessary, but many Americans believe it’s too little, too late.
This moment has become a turning point in the ongoing battle against media double standards and political hatred.
