Here’s what Schiff had to say about it…
In discussions about the 2024 election, Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) expressed confidence in Vice President Kamala Harris’s potential running mates, should she secure the Democratic Party’s nomination. Schiff, who is also pursuing a Senate seat, acknowledged the numerous endorsements Harris has garnered, including support from President Biden himself. Names like Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and Governor Josh Shapiro (D-PA) have surfaced as possible choices for Harris’s vice presidential pick.
“Those are all impressive choices,” Schiff noted during an appearance on ABC’s The View. “As Vice President, Kamala Harris understands best the qualities needed in a vice president, not just to campaign effectively, but more importantly, to govern effectively,” he added. “I am confident she will select the right individual who can fulfill these crucial roles.”
Schiff emphasized the critical importance of choosing a running mate who can contribute to electoral success. “Ultimately, the key question in selecting a running mate is who can help win the election, because without winning, there’s no opportunity to govern,” Schiff remarked.
Regarding speculation about President Biden potentially stepping aside from the 2024 race, Schiff dismissed suggestions of any orchestrated effort to push Biden out. “I was voicing what I believe reflects the sentiment of many Americans,” he clarified. Schiff had notably joined other Democrats in urging Biden to consider his options following the initial presidential debate last month.
Despite the endorsements and support Harris has received, Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) cautioned that her nomination is not a foregone conclusion. Tester, currently in a competitive reelection race, described the situation as uncertain. Similarly, Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) voiced her backing for Harris at a recent rally, citing positive sentiment among Democrats since Harris assumed office. Baldwin, also facing a tough reelection battle, acknowledged a narrowing margin of victory based on recent polling averages.
As the political landscape evolves towards 2024, discussions within the Democratic Party reflect varying opinions on leadership and strategy, underscoring the complexity of navigating future electoral challenges.
