Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez delivered a shot across the bow to President Biden and suggested that he was useless for not wiping away the student loan debt for millions of Americans.
According to Fortune, currently there are an astounding 43 million people with student loan debt across America and the date for student loan repayments set to resume on Feb 1st, 2022.
The payments for student loan debt were paused due to the coronavirus pandemic and now top Democrats such as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are demanding Biden cancel student debt outright.
AOC has called on Biden to use executive action and free these Americans of debt.
“There is an enormous amount of executive action that they’re sitting on that I think is underutilized [on student loans],” Ocasio-Cortez said.
AOC has even cosponsored a bill H. Res. 100 which is “calling on the President of the United States to take executive action to broadly cancel Federal student loan debt.”
Ocasio-Cortez was even bold enough to say on Instagram, “I think given how much [Build Back Better] has been slashed, there is more opportunity than ever to bring the heat on Biden to cancel student loans.”
President Biden on the other hand along with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi appear to not want to get involved with the mass cancellation of student debt whatsoever.
