President Joe Biden has issued a grave warning, expressing concern that the United States could find itself directly involved in a conflict with Russia if the Kremlin succeeds in its ongoing war against Ukraine. This caution comes in the aftermath of a significant aerial assault by Russia on Ukraine, with reports from Kyiv indicating that around 110 missiles targeted various sites, including hospitals, residential buildings, and a shopping center. Tragically, the attack resulted in the loss of at least 31 lives, with another 120 individuals sustaining injuries, according to Ukrainian officials cited by Reuters.
In a statement released on Friday, President Biden underscored the severity of the situation, stating, “Russia launched its most extensive aerial assault on Ukraine since the commencement of this war overnight.” He emphasized the persistent goal of Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating, “It serves as a stark reminder to the world that, even after nearly two years of this devastating war, Putin’s objective remains unaltered: to annihilate Ukraine and subjugate its people. This must be halted.”
The protracted 22-month conflict has strained relations between Russia and NATO alliance members. While NATO has provided substantial military aid and weaponry to support Ukraine, backing for Kyiv has encountered challenges, particularly in the United States, where Republican lawmakers have hindered additional funding to Ukraine, linking it to a broader deal addressing concerns related to the U.S. immigration system.
Acknowledging Ukraine’s successful interception of some of Russia’s missiles and drones, President Biden stressed the urgency of action by congressional lawmakers in the new year to sustain support. Without such action, the U.S. may be unable to continue supplying Ukraine with crucial weapons and air defense systems.

Despite the urgent situation, President Biden’s call for a $110 billion aid package, encompassing support for Ukraine, Israel, and national security needs, has faced repeated rejection from GOP lawmakers. House Speaker Mike Johnson, while expressing support for Ukraine, emphasized the need for clarity in the administration’s strategy and raised concerns about additional funding without adequate oversight or a clear winning strategy for Ukraine.
