Biden needs to get it together badly.

In a scathing critique, House Speaker Mike Johnson lambasted President Biden, labeling him as an “embarrassment” for what he called a misplaced sympathy towards the accused killer of Laken Riley rather than extending condolences to the grieving family of the slain student.

Johnson’s condemnation came in response to Biden’s recent interview with MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart, aired on Saturday, where the president drew criticism for his remarks. Urged by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Biden deviated from his prepared remarks during the State of the Union address to denounce Riley’s murderer as “an illegal.” However, in his subsequent interview with Capehart, Biden backtracked, suggesting that he should have used the term “undocumented” instead to describe Jose Ibarra, the Venezuelan national charged with Riley’s murder.

Ibarra’s legal status has been a subject of controversy, with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirming his illegal entry into the country near El Paso, Texas, in September 2022. Despite this, he was released into the U.S. pending further processing. Subsequently, Ibarra was arrested in New York City for an unrelated offense involving a child. Further scrutiny revealed previous run-ins with the law, including a shoplifting citation in Georgia alongside his brother just months before Riley’s tragic death.

The charges against Ibarra are severe, including malice murder, kidnapping, aggravated assault, and concealing the death of another, among others. According to court documents, the brutality of the crime is underscored by allegations of “disfiguring” Riley’s skull.

Biden’s attempt to rectify his choice of words by substituting “illegal” with “undocumented” sparked backlash, notably from former President Trump, who criticized the apology during a rally. Trump, in his characteristic fashion, reiterated his stance on illegal immigration, emphasizing the need for stringent policies to prevent such tragedies.

Throughout the ordeal, Riley’s grieving parents have been at the center of attention, with Biden expressing his condolences during the State of the Union address. However, his remarks about “thousands of people being killed by legals” have only added fuel to the ongoing debate over immigration policies and their implications for public safety.

In the midst of political wrangling and rhetoric, the tragic loss of Laken Riley serves as a stark reminder of the human toll of immigration-related crime, leaving a community in mourning and reigniting calls for comprehensive immigration reform.
