All eyes are on Donald Trump and Biden hates it.
President Biden’s re-election campaign expressed frustration with MSNBC and CNN on Wednesday for not covering a “Black Voters for Biden-Harris” rally in Philadelphia, opting instead to focus on the historic New York v. Trump trial.
The rally, which coincided with the first day of jury deliberations in former President Trump’s criminal trial in New York, saw Biden promising to nominate progressive judges to the Supreme Court if re-elected. Despite the trial dominating headlines for weeks, a Biden campaign staffer felt that the networks should have shifted their focus to the current president’s address.
“President Biden spoke to around 1,000 predominantly Black voters in Philadelphia about the significant stakes in this election. @MSNBC @CNN & others didn’t broadcast it. Instead, they chose more coverage of a trial affecting one individual: Trump,” tweeted TJ Ducklo, a spokesperson for the Biden campaign, on X.
Ducklo further commented, “Later, they’ll question why our message isn’t reaching the public.”
In a statement to Fox News Digital, Ducklo elaborated on the campaign’s concerns, emphasizing the media’s responsibility to inform Americans about the potential consequences of a Trump presidency. He warned that Trump’s policies could include extreme abortion restrictions, misuse of the Department of Justice against citizens, establishment of detention camps, mass deportations, increased healthcare and housing costs, and cuts to Social Security and Medicare.
CNN chose not to comment, and MSNBC did not immediately respond to a request for a statement.
Ducklo’s post sparked debate, with some questioning why the Biden campaign would not want attention on Trump’s trial. Columnist Eddie Scarry humorously remarked, “LOL Biden team went from ‘get his a–, media, he’s a criminal!’ to ‘why are you worried about this criminal?’”
During the rally, Biden underscored the importance of the upcoming election for both conservatives, who have celebrated their 6-3 majority on the Supreme Court, and progressives, who have criticized recent landmark decisions. He highlighted the potential for appointing new justices and the impact such changes could have.
“The next president will have the opportunity to appoint a couple of justices, and if we can replace some of the current justices with truly progressive judges, imagine the difference that will make in your life,” Biden told the audience.
