Following the tragic death of 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley in Athens, Georgia, numerous Republicans, including presidential hopeful Nikki Haley, are attributing the incident to President Joe Biden’s policies. Jose Antonio Ibarra, a 26-year-old Venezuelan migrant, stands accused of Riley’s murder. Reports indicate he entered the U.S. illegally in September 2022 and was subsequently released due to a lack of detention space. Republicans such as Georgia Rep. Mike Collins and Gov. Brian Kemp are placing blame on Biden’s immigration stance and Athens’ sanctuary city status.
Expressing her outrage, Nikki Haley criticized Biden for not prioritizing border security and urged Congress to take immediate action. She also took aim at former President Trump and Congress for their roles in the matter, emphasizing the need for bipartisan cooperation on immigration reform.
