MTG Issues Election Threat To Trump, GOP

This was unexpected from MTG who was once her strongest supporter.

Washington, D.C. – Firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has issued a sharp warning to Speaker Mike Johnson and fellow Republicans: if the GOP doesn’t take bold action to lower the cost of living and stand up for working Americans, the party could lose control of the House — and hand Democrats a golden opportunity in 2026.

“I can’t predict the future, but if Americans keep living paycheck to paycheck, Republicans could lose the House,” Greene said in an interview with Semafor. “When voters head to the polls, their main concern will be their wallets.”

Greene Sounds Alarm Over GOP Inaction

Greene’s remarks come as many families continue to struggle under sky-high inflation, rising mortgage rates, and record credit-card debt. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, household debt jumped another $185 billion in the second quarter of 2025, with total household debt now over $4.2 trillion higher than before the pandemic.

The Georgia congresswoman says Republican leaders must wake up to the pain being felt by seniors, veterans, and families who helped elect them. “Americans are hurting, and they want real leadership — not excuses,” Greene said.

Johnson Strikes Back With Optimism

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) brushed off Greene’s warning, saying he’s confident Republicans will expand their majority next cycle.

“I’m very bullish about the midterms,” Johnson told CNBC. “We’ll grow our majority, keep the Senate, and give President Trump four strong years to restore America.”

Johnson also defended his decision to pursue a “clean” continuing resolution to fund the government, arguing Republicans are “doing the right thing.” But critics like Greene say that approach lacks urgency.

Government Shutdown and GOP Divide

Greene has been one of the few House Republicans pressing for round-the-clock sessions to resolve the ongoing government shutdown, which began October 1.

“The House should be in session working,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “I have no respect for the decision to refuse to work while Americans suffer.”

Her frustration has deepened as health-care premiums threaten to double for millions of Americans if Obamacare tax credits expire. Though she’s “no fan” of the 2010 law, Greene says Republicans have failed to propose a serious alternative that protects families from skyrocketing costs.

“The Republican Party Is Failing”

Johnson told Fox News he had a “thoughtful conversation” with Greene about her concerns, but Greene says it’s not enough.

“There’s intense frustration within our conference,” she told Semafor. “We’re not passing appropriations. We’re not in session. We’re not fighting for the people who put us here. The Republican Party is failing.”

As everyday Americans continue to stretch every dollar, Greene’s message hits home: either the GOP delivers economic relief — or voters will deliver a harsh verdict in 2026.
