Are Kamala’s dreams crushed?
On Tuesday, Representative Andy Ogles, a Tennessee Republican, submitted impeachment articles against Vice President Harris, amid heightened Republican scrutiny as she begins her presidential bid.
This submission broadens the scope of earlier impeachment articles that critiqued Harris’s approach to immigration, which remains a central issue for GOP criticism of the vice president.
In this latest submission, Ogles included a new article accusing Harris of concealing concerns about President Biden’s mental health, an act he described as a “breach of public trust.” This accusation comes after President Biden, despite recently halting his reelection efforts, affirmed his commitment to completing his current term and asserted his good health.
The document states, “Kamala Devi Harris has deliberately deceived the American public and Congress, primarily by obscuring the physical and cognitive condition of the President of the United States, Joe Biden.”
The initial impeachment articles, introduced on June 12, 2023, charged Harris with “profound incompetence in fulfilling her duties, a clear refusal to enforce existing immigration laws, and an evident disregard for the American people affected by the ongoing crisis at the southern U.S. border.”
Harris, often referred to as the “border czar” — an informal title attributed to her by the media when she was assigned to lead diplomatic efforts with Central American nations to curb illegal immigration — is further criticized in the filing.
The document highlights certain criminal activities allegedly committed by undocumented immigrants, including the killing of student Laken Riley, which Republicans, in particular, have emphasized alongside recent border crossing figures.
The filing argues, “Throughout, Kamala Devi Harris has intentionally and systematically neglected to enforce immigration laws, failed to secure the border, jeopardized national security, undermined public safety, and breached the rule of law, causing significant harm to the American populace.”
No further action has been taken on the initial filing.
Additionally, U.S. Customs and Border Protection recently reported a significant drop in arrests at the U.S.-Mexico border in June, the lowest during President Biden’s tenure.
On the same day, Ogles urged Harris to implement the 25th Amendment against Biden due to health concerns, which would position her as the acting president.
In a related case, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas faced impeachment in the House earlier in February over similar immigration issues, though the Senate later dismissed the articles.
Representative Lauren Boebert of Colorado had previously submitted impeachment articles against Harris in 2021 concerning the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan, but these were not taken up by the Judiciary Committee.
